Marinetti was a poet and a writer but he was also about to become an important founder in one of art history&#8217;s greatest movements.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As he was driving, two cyclists appeared before him and Marinetti swerved suddenly to avoid hitting them. While he was successful in sparing the cyclist, Marinetti went upside down in a ditch.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luckily, both men were fine and while Marinetti was stuck there, he thought long and hard about the concept of mechanized violence. He thought about the difference between the old bicycle and the modern car.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When he was helped out of his car, the young writer emerged with a dramatic epiphany that he spent the rest of the year writing about. It became the first and most famous manifesto of the 20th century, The Futurist Manifesto.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It appeared in the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La Gazzetta dell&#8217;Emilia<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and then a few weeks later on the front page of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Le Figaro<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the largest newsprint circulator in France at the time and so, the Futurism movement was born.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/product\/details\/129402\/The-infinite-city\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-27468\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.co.nz\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2022\/05\/infinite-city.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"353\" height=\"495\" \/><\/span><\/i><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/product\/details\/129402\/The-infinite-city\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The infinite city<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by <\/span><\/i><a href=\"\/artist\/federico-cortese2\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Federico Cortese<\/span><\/i><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What Is Futurism?\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Futurism as an art movement embraced the modern world \u2013 its goal was to capture the energy and dynamism of the present-day, looking to the future. The avant-garde movement found its way into art, music, literature, architecture and more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Futurist artists saw history as oppressive and outdated so they instead embraced the newest developments in modernity and industry. They often painted urban modern themes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/product\/details\/63339\/Hopeful-Dreamers\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-27469\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.co.nz\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2022\/05\/original-art.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"349\" height=\"527\" \/><\/span><\/i><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/product\/details\/63339\/Hopeful-Dreamers\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hopeful Dreamers<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by <\/span><\/i><a href=\"\/artist\/ilya-volykhine\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ilya Volykhine<\/span><\/i><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kinds of Futurism<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Futurist art often depicted cities, trains, cars, airplanes and all things that involved speed, violence and people in the workforce. They used techniques like blurring, repetition and lines of force inspired by cubism to show movement and dynamism.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Divisionism<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The distinct style of futurism was slow to develop and took a lot of inspiration from post-impressionism. In 1901, Severini and Boccioni were introduced to divisionism in Balla\u2019s studio. Divisionist art was made of dots and stripes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A famous divisionism painting is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The City Rises (1910)<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by Umberto Boccioni depicting a huge horse that men are struggling to control. It gave the viewer a sense of overwhelming power and was Boccioni\u2019s first major Futurist work.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dynamism<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dynamist futurist art is created with energetic brushstrokes in a fragmented style. This style of futurism aimed to capture the turbulence and shifting form of a subject.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/product\/details\/55462\/Queen-and-Spadina-2\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-27470\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.co.nz\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2022\/05\/queen.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"498\" height=\"498\" \/><\/span><\/i><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/product\/details\/55462\/Queen-and-Spadina-2\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Queen and Spadina 2<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by <\/span><\/i><a href=\"\/artist\/chris-albert\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chris Albert<\/span><\/i><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Photography<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Photodynamism was a term coined by the three Bragaglia brothers who captured figures in motion with blurriness. Eventually, the Bragaglia brothers were rejected from the Futurists in 1913 because they started promoting photodynamism as a separate movement. Because of this, Futurism avoided photography until 1930 when new photographers entered the picture with techniques like photomontage and multilayered negatives.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They also experimented with film but the only surviving record of this is Thais, which was made in 1916 by Anton Giulio Bragaglia.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Looking for energetic and dynamic art?
