According to The New York Times&#8217;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com\/2011\/07\/05\/cy-twombly-idiosyncratic-painter-dies-at-83\/\">ArtsBeat<\/a> blog, &#8220;&#8230;even critics questioned constantly whether Twombly&#8217;s work deserved a place at the forefront of 20th-century abstraction, though he lived long enough to see it arrive there.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7509\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cytwombly.info\/twombly_gallery5.htm\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7509\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7509\" title=\"twombly the_rose_IV_2008\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/twombly-the_rose_IV_2008-400x137.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"137\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-7509\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Rose (IV), 2008 by Cy Twombly<\/p><\/div>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cy_Twombly\">Wikipedia<\/a>,\u00a0Twombly had extensive artistic training and a deep understanding of art. At age 12 he began to take private art lessons with the Spanish modern master <a href=\"https:\/\/museums.richmond.edu\/exhibitions\/print-study-center\/pierre-daura.html\">Pierre Daura<\/a>. At age 22, on a tuition scholarship, he studied at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theartstudentsleague.org\/\">Art Students League of New York<\/a>, where he met <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Robert_Rauschenberg\">Robert Rauschenberg<\/a>.
