An <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/business\/ci_18890271?source=email\">article<\/a> about Apple&#8217;s proposed campus by one of my favorite architecture critics, <a href=\"https:\/\/alanhess.net\/\">Alan Hess<\/a>, caught my eye last week. &#8220;This enormous circle, this infinite loop, this shining doughnut that will be the new Apple campus in Cupertino is both impressive and puzzling&#8221;, Hess states in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/\">San Jose Mercury News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_8507\" style=\"width: 420px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cupertino.org\/inc\/pdf\/apple\/Renderings.pdf\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8507\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8507 \" title=\"apple2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.com\/art\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2011\/09\/apple2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"410\" height=\"145\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.co.nz\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2011\/09\/apple2.jpg 410w, https:\/\/www.zatista.co.nz\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2011\/09\/apple2-400x141.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 410px) 100vw, 410px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-8507\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Proposed Apple campus rendering<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;If an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/ipad\/\">iPad<\/a> could be scaled up to building size, this would be it: The design embodies the signature aesthetic of Apple products \u2013 minimalist to the point of inscrutability \u2013 until they flash to electronic life and become a window to the universe. But what works for a device you hold in your hand does not necessarily work at the scale of an office building&#8221;, according to Hess.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_8508\" style=\"width: 419px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cupertino.org\/inc\/pdf\/apple\/Renderings.pdf\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8508\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8508\" title=\"apple3\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.com\/art\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2011\/09\/apple3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"409\" height=\"171\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.co.nz\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2011\/09\/apple3.jpg 409w, https:\/\/www.zatista.co.nz\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2011\/09\/apple3-400x167.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 409px) 100vw, 409px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-8508\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Proposed Apple campus rendering<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Hess goes on to say, &#8220;What&#8217;s puzzling about the design, whose blueprints were made public last week, is how conventional it is conceptually. It breaks almost no new ground in reshaping the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Silicon_Valley\">Silicon Valley<\/a> workplace, and where it does depart from the norm it causes problems for itself. The new Apple campus makes no essential addition to the successful Silicon Valley high-tech campus prototype introduced at <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stanford_Research_Park\">Stanford Industrial Park<\/a> 60 years ago, which has become as much an architectural icon as the skyscraper. Fortunately, the discussions regarding the design of the space and the area surrounding the building are intriguing, especially as Hess sheds light on the finer points of the campus&#8217; architecture.
