General Packaging Guidelines

Pre-Wrapping - Loosely wrap your work in glassine or paper prior to cushioning. Wrapping the work in a light paper or glassine will limit possible condensation that may occur in transport. Be sure that paper or glassine does not touch the work surface to avoid adherence to the work.

Cushioning - Provide cushioning on all sides of the artwork with appropriate packing material to help prevent damage from light impact. Packing with bubble wrap, peanuts or wadded paper will ensure there is not room for your item to shift during shipment.

Note: When wrapping with bubble wrap, be sure and have bubbles pointing away from the art as bubbles can leave impressions.

Taping & Securing - Use proper packing tape. Clear or brown packing tape, or reinforced paper tape that is at least two inches wide is standard. Securing all package seams with packing tape will help keep contents safe from moisture in transit.

Package Labeling - Label your package with a clear "Ship To" and "Ship From". Be sure and remove/cross out with a black marker any previous shipping information if you are re-using a box.

Tracking - All artwork must be shipped via a trackable method. Tracking the item to it's destination ensures delivery to the buyer, and is also how our system knows when to release funds to the seller.

We have provided the following shipping chart to highlight which carrier may be the most cost-effective given general geographical and dimensional criteria.

Please note this is a guide and should be used in combination with your own research using your artwork's specific dimensions and in conjunction with the carrier shipping calculators (see links to calculators above).

    • Sellers shipping items larger than 40" X 40", with weight more than 20 pounds, and declared value greater than $2500 should consider professionally crating the work.
    • Irregularly shaped items may cost more to ship than standard shaped items. Items that are framed and have glass will require more protective and careful packaging. As a result, the cost of the additional packing materials should be considered in your total shipping cost to the buyer.

Insuring Your Shipment

Zatista requires all items shipped to be insured. Most items are automatically insured up to $100 (US) in declared value for damage or loss during shipping by each of our approved carrier, however you will want to be sure the work is in fact covered before shipping.

For items over $100 (US) in declared value, it is the responsibility of the seller to purchase additional insurance to cover the value of the item sold. Below are charts outlining various shipping insurance fees associated with additional insurance.
