Artist Statement:
“Painting is the air I breathe.”
Gary Westall
I was born in London in 1960 and have lived in Germany since 1982. I am passionately devoted to painting. My paintings are created both outdoors in nature—en plein air—and in my studio. Both places are equally important sources of inspiration for me.
Painting outdoors allows me to experience light, the elements, and the changing moods of nature directly. In the studio, I have the peace and quiet to deepen these impressions and give them a new, often freer form. In this way, spontaneity and reflection combine to create a lively dialogue between nature and canvas.
I paint not only landscapes, but also other expressions of nature—such as animals, plants, or people—that relate to their surroundings. My work is about capturing moods and sensations: the vastness of the sky, the shimmer of colors, or the quiet presence of a moment.
For me, painting is pure joy of life and an attempt to share this joy with others.

Education:
Self taught, I continually participate on workshops and courses, extending my skills and knowledge by learning from the best. The best Teacher being Mother Nature.
Professional/Teaching Experience:
I teach in my Studio and in the field beginners and Semi-professionals, one to to one and small groups on a regular basis.
