Artist Statement:
Throughout my 30 years as a published, practicing illustrator, I have worked on a diverse range of projects, including 5 years at Walt Disney Feature Animation. My skills as a look development artist were featured in many live action and digital Disney feature films, and video games. My experience has gifted me with style and the ability to adapt to different audiences with skills crucial to guiding advanced illustration students.
Beyond my professional illustration work, I have a commitment to inspire and mentor artists in the years moving forward. I believe every student has a unique, artistic voice and it's my job to help them discover and refine their own. I will integrate traditional drawing and painting skills with the tools like Photoshop, Maya or other modeling software, increasing student engagement for future employment opportunities, exhibitions and competitions.
During my days as a student at Art Center, I mixed paint with Richard Bunkall, sketched the human figure with Harry Carmean, produced hundreds of dynamic anatomy sketches with Burne Hogarth, filled pages of notebooks with Gary Meyer's lessons on perspective and painting with speed. I followed Ray Turner into the wild, with canvas and oil to challenging landscape locations here in southern California, and was thrilled to experience 3D software during it's infancy with Stan Liu, who eventually became my boss at Kronos Digital Entertainment here in Pasadena.
